You really put the nail on the head with Augustus, I think. He really was almost off-putting at points.

He was. Even Hazel herself points out how some of the stuff he does seems contrived rather than sincere! I felt that way too. It was a little much considering how young they are and how fast everything moves. Perhaps some girls will read this and think his “romantic” ways are endearing, but having been preyed upon by Boys Who Try Too Hard, I know that I don’t like that kind of behavior. I much prefer Robbie, who has pointed out that he’s a robot. (He isn’t, but he also isn’t grossly overemotional.)
